NEXT BOOT CAMP SET FOR NEXT MONTH!!
We are halfway into 2018 and we have an exciting six months ahead of us. On Friday 1st, June 2018 we had a great closing ceremony for the 1st boot camp of 2018.
The event which saw 20 students graduate to developers was graced by the finish Ambassador to Zambia Timo Okkonen who urged the student to use what they have learnt to develop Zambia because technology is the future. Our Rural Coding Series Manager, Daniel Bevington then gave a talk about "Girld Can Code", a project that focuses on teaching coding to girls in rural Zambia.
Hackers Guild CEO Charles Mwanza then explained to the audience that in the final two weeks of the bootcamp, students were split into 4 groups and were given a task to identify a problem in the country and come up with a website or app that would help reduce or stop the problem. The students were then required present the projects they were working on to the audience at the closing ceremony.
Group 1 came up with a project they called the "99 Jobs", a website where people with trade skills could meet clients and also look for jobs whilst group two came up with the "Elite Gallery", an app where craft men and artist could meet buyers instead of relying on weekend markets at the malls.
The third group created a website they called the "pet connection”, a website where one could sell ,buy and find lost pets. And finally, group 4 came up with an app where one could pay, reserve bus tickets and even have a chat with different bus operators to negotiate different offers.
After presentation of the projects, the student later received their certificates which were handed over by Finnish Embassy Coordinator, Idah Kalmanlehto who was representing the Finnish Embassy.
Our next Bootcamp is scheduled for July and we can only imagine how exciting and prouctive it will be.
